		<description>
	Commute Trip ReductionThe Commute Trip Reduction (CTR) law was passed by Washington Legislature in 1991 as part of the Washington Clean Air Act. The law aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants, traffic congestion, and energy consumption. CTR, which is a strategy of transportation demand management (TDM), requires employers to encourage their employees to reduce the number of drive-alone commute trips by promoting alternate ways of getting to work.

Local jurisdictions across Washington state, including the City of Kent, work with large employers to participate in the CTR program. As the CTR Coordinator for Kent, I share resources with employers around commuter benefits and encourage alternative modes through programs offered by King County Metro. I also collect data on the progress of the program through employee surveys and program reports. For the first time in Kent’s CTR history, I have been able to implement tabling at worksites for the surveys and to provide incentives for participants. These efforts have helped build the City’s relationship with local businesses and organizations.

Apart from the program, the CTR 4-Year Plan is another requirement for local jurisdictions. For Kent’s 2025-2029 CTR 4-Year Plan, my team and I coordinated public outreach for the plan and I also gave a presentation to our City Council. I collaborated with neighboring cities in South King County to discuss and ensure the alignment of our local plans. As a city that has not had a CTR plan since 2007, neighboring cities now look to us as a regional leader.

 The draft plan was approved by WSDOT TDM Technical Committee February 2025. The CTR plan was adopted by City Council in June 2025.

	Whittier Narrows Recreational Study
In Summer 2022, I interned at Environmental Science Associates (ESA) under the Community Development team with a focus on air quality and noise. At ESA, I wrote and assessed environmental impact reports for air quality, greenhouse gas emissions, and noise.
Eventually, I started taking on projects independently, including the Whittier Narrows Recreational Study prepared for the Sanitation District of LA County. Based on field research that had already been conducted, I analyzed data and wrote a report on the Whittier Narrows Recreational Study. I saw this report through from start to finish. I worked with stakeholders from the Biological Resources team at ESA and the Sanitation District of LA County. I also worked with my supervisor to iterate on the report and make changes based on feedback.

		<description>
	What’s All the Hub Bub? A Post-Occupancy Evaluation of BruinHub

In Fall 2021, a space for UCLA student commuters known as
BruinHub was established. BruinHub was intended for long-distance commuters in
particular—those who travel 60 minutes or more one-way to and from campus. BruinHub
amenities include couches, chairs, desks, tables, a microwave, fridge, a food
cart with snacks, 32 lockers, and five pods, which can be used for resting or
sleeping. The creation of BruinHub was the combined effort of UCLA Campus Life,
UCLA Recreation, and cityLAB, a design research center housed under the School
of Architecture.

A year after its operation, the team behind BruinHub wanted to know whether BruinHub has
achieved its goal of providing a space of respite for UCLA commuters and housing insecure or
homeless students. BruinHub started out as a prototype and this evaluation is necessary to see
how well the space is working. BruinHub and the evaluation is situated within the larger
problem of students experiencing long-distance commutes and various forms of precarities,
including housing, financial, and food insecurity.

My role involved conducting an evaluation upon the one-year opening of BruinHub to learn
whether BruinHub is targeting the right audience and how to increase outreach to further
benefit the intended audience. Primary research questions for this project are:

Does BruinHub serve the intended target audience of long-distance commuters,
including commuters who experience some form of housing insecurity?

What changes to the current and proposed BruinHub program(s) would further
benefit the intended audience?

The overarching finding from this study is that BruinHub is the first step in the right direction in addressing the needs of long-distance commuters. However, there are more improvements that can be implemented in order to reach its full potential, especially by prioritizing and directly serving its intended audience.

Recommendations to come out of this study involve spatial recommendations, programming recommendations, and recommendations for outreach and data collection. While many of the suggested improvements will be challenging to implement, students and staff must actively advocate for the changes. The newly opened second location, BruinHub Strathmore, presents an opportunity to address many of the current concerns and service gaps that BruinHub experiences.

	Carbon Neutral
The PR team at&#38;nbsp;Allbirds wanted to create a t-shirt design honoring the company going carbon neutral and gift the shirt to editors. The design was intentionally off-brand and borrowed elements from Grateful Dead shirts without being overly hippie. The shirts are screenprinted with soy based ink on natural hand-dyed Jungmaven hemp shirts.

	IBM Supply Chain: Shared Visibility Ledger
PROBLEM SPACEThe communication systems among organizations in supply chain are inefficient and outdated. A pain point that supply chain practitioners experience is they don’t have “visibility” into pertinent information. For example, they might not know when to expect a shipment from their supplier that has been picked up by a carrier.
To fix this problem, there is an opportunity to take advantage of an emerging technology known as blockchain that will allow for information to be shared in one place and for organizations to be held accountable.

INITIAL RESEARCH / PERSONASBeing a project from the ground up, there is little past research and no primary personas, so I borrowed personas from neighboring supply chain teams under the Watson Customer Engagement portfolio to use as jumping off points.&#38;nbsp;
	&#60;img width="2208" height="1242" width_o="2208" height_o="1242" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/3e22dcc4f04940dc4899cd26dd7a3d2f291a60e57ec70f1cf585d360352d8a9b/sandybill-personas.png" data-mid="10794396" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/3e22dcc4f04940dc4899cd26dd7a3d2f291a60e57ec70f1cf585d360352d8a9b/sandybill-personas.png" /&#62;

MY ROLEUX Research Lead, UX Design

Our team had partnerships with clients known as sponsor users whom we regularly engaged with to ask research questions and to share our designs. These sponsor users included JB Hunt, Husqvarna, Kimberly-Clark, and Toyota. I created research plans and led interviews with employees from the sponsor organizations.
I also recruited people that matched the existing personas using the recruiting platform Respondent. I led the one-on-one interviews with the participants.
	&#60;img width="4032" height="3024" width_o="4032" height_o="3024" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/ec5cfd49d14610232312bd5bf642bdd6c484b333e118e3e399faeae193285511/JB-Hunt-pic.jpg" data-mid="27753500" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/ec5cfd49d14610232312bd5bf642bdd6c484b333e118e3e399faeae193285511/JB-Hunt-pic.jpg" /&#62;

	DESIGNThe research heavily informed the initial designs for this product, including the first design milestone: onboarding set up for the users, which my team referred to as “Configuring a Ledger”.

I used the UserTesting.com platform to conduct unmoderated usability tests on the wireframes. The feedback from the participants further allowed me to present and make design decisions for the wireframes. After every set of interviews, I presented a research “playback” to the wider Shared Visibility Ledger (SVL) team, which included product managers, engineers, and designers. Eventually, I started to have a sense of how the roles in supply chain related to one another and began to sketch out how they work and communicate with each other.
	&#60;img width="4000" height="2500" width_o="4000" height_o="2500" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/b055845a9237b26d9f907942ccb0c9a0be5a98251fafa4fd32c9c9bc3a2e2b4b/SVL_configuring_browser.jpg" data-mid="48996433" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/b055845a9237b26d9f907942ccb0c9a0be5a98251fafa4fd32c9c9bc3a2e2b4b/SVL_configuring_browser.jpg" /&#62;

	Finally, some key personas! I identified three potential personas within the buyer, supplier, and carrier roles that would use SVL. These three personas are notable because they hold a strategic role and they are typically the ones that hand off and communicate with the other organizations in the supply chain.

The top 3 key personas for SVL

	With the key personas identified, I validated them with our sponsor users and interviewed more participants from Respondent. My team and I continued to create designs. The Discrepancies and Alerts wireframe shows the alerts that an SVL user would want to know about — when a shipment is delayed, for instance.

	OUTCOMEThe main takeaway from this project for me was learning to lead a team on research. A lot of my work involved me working independently as a researcher while also collaborating with the rest of the design team and educating them on the research.
This was one of the most challenging projects I worked on because I simultaneously learned about supply chain while designing for it. Much of the research led me to more questions than answers. Reflecting back, I realize that there was a lot of uncertainty, especially in the beginning. But as I worked through the uncertainty, I started to see how the pieces fit.

	IBM Blockchain: Hyperledger Fabric Documentation
PROBLEM SPACEUsers express dissatisfaction with Hyperledger Fabric’s documentation website, which is used primarily by blockchain developers. How can we make dense, complex, and technical information easier to digest and navigate through? Furthermore, how can we refresh the design and branding of Hyperledger Fabric?
DIAGRAMS / VISUAL LANGUAGEOne of the key insights my team generated through the research is that diagrams are essential to improving the text-heavy documentation and they play a big part in helping the user easily understand blockchain concepts. Through this insight, I helped create several key diagrams. The challenge of creating these diagrams lies in collaborating with the developers and content writers, as well as simplifying complex technical information. I also worked closely with the visual designers and developers while designing the diagrams.
	&#60;img width="540" height="321" width_o="540" height_o="321" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/2a456dd0194325925c733600fb0149aa612c26014c8d810b353d469fa28cdd13/OriginalDiagram.png" data-mid="106562946" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/540/i/2a456dd0194325925c733600fb0149aa612c26014c8d810b353d469fa28cdd13/OriginalDiagram.png" /&#62;

&#60;img width="540" height="321" width_o="540" height_o="321" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/93b832e831f998390860160c8a147b58bba3569ec159e7816a73ec4917feb2c0/2ndVersionDiagram.png" data-mid="106562944" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/540/i/93b832e831f998390860160c8a147b58bba3569ec159e7816a73ec4917feb2c0/2ndVersionDiagram.png" /&#62;

	I had these questions in mind while creating the diagrams:

How well do these diagrams match up with the concepts they are trying to convey?&#38;nbsp;Or in other words, are the diagrams technically correct?

How well is a user able to read and understand the diagrams clearly?

How well do the diagrams support the content on the documentation?

What are impressions of the documentation as a whole?

	&#60;img width="540" height="408" width_o="540" height_o="408" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/ecf8ee09e4bf5cdb31c1a6dfb5638bc1150097d51516681a37fb771e90b32052/Third-Iteration-Consensus-SizedtoFit.png" data-mid="106562964" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/540/i/ecf8ee09e4bf5cdb31c1a6dfb5638bc1150097d51516681a37fb771e90b32052/Third-Iteration-Consensus-SizedtoFit.png" /&#62;

	NAVIGATION AND WIREFRAMESAnother insight we had is: because of the dense and low discoverability opportunities in the current documentation, the information architecture needed restructuring. I worked with a researcher, Raissa, to map out the architecture of the page and created user flows. From there, I re-designed the navigation menu for the website.

OUTCOMEThis project was a huge learning opportunity for me, as I got to touch on many different areas of design including UX, visual, and research. It was also an opportunity to collaborate with a diverse team while designing within a technical field. The diagrams we produced now live on the website’s Key Concepts section. My team and I made a tremendous first step on the improvement of the documentation.

	Measuring Studio and Culture Impact on Company Revenue

Design studios were a new addition to IBM the past several years. There is currently no way for studio leaders to efficiently and concretely understand studio health, and demonstrate the value of IBM Studios to executives. In short, there is no way to quantitively measure the impact of design on IBM’s revenue.
GOAL
IBMers with a direct stake in the IBM Studios Network can correlate hard data between studio health and business outcomes, to see, share, and predict the impact of IBM Studios for the first time ever.MY ROLEUX design, UX research
	&#60;img width="3360" height="1798" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1500/q/67/i/8e7f3268deeab18775942358454520c8226e9b86255d33bd7b6ab67065ab22e1/nigel-quote.png" style="width: 480.851173px; height: 257.312622px;"&#62;

	RESEARCH PROCESS
My team conducted generative research to understand what the studio structure at various IBM Design studios is like and what Studio Leads believe are the factors that make a healthy studio. We spoke with Studio Leads, Design Directors, and Executives in the US, France, Japan, China, and Australia. Through our research, we identified key insights, metrics, and actionable goals.
	&#60;img width="3024" height="4032" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/q/67/i/8b5a97cad618007b5db7d0e3ea1803dbaeb4ce02c7adc7faefe7990ac0ad20e0/Interview-Debrief---Ndu-and-PH.jpg" style="width: 480.851173px; height: 641.134897px;"&#62;

Paper prototype

	From the ideation sessions we held based on the insights, we devised a dashboard, known as IBM Mercury, that tracks the health of design studios, globally. IBM Mercury uses an algorithm to track specific metrics and come up with a “grade” for each studio.
IBM MERCURY IS...A platform for IBM Studios to measure the temperature of the Studios Network.A tool to track and visualize studio activity.
A window into studios without the need for manual data sharing.
An aggregation of data to show business impact of IBM Studios.IBM MECURY TRACKS THESE METRICS:
 — Designer Engagement (Studio NPS)
— Client Experience (Workshop and Product NPS)
— Business Impact (Workshop and Product Revenue)
— Studio Attrition
 — Team Size and Growth Utilization OUTCOME
With IBM Mercury, IBMers will be able to directly see the impact of how design studios across the world impact the growth of IBM. Furthermore, the validation of key metrics would be an iterative process over time. In other words, the gathering of the right metrics would be something to validate and refine throughout time. The future of IBM Mercury would include systems being built for collecting specific metrics (such as NPS) and expanded functionality to make correlations and predictions with the data.
