Target Zero Action Plan
The City of Kent has been developing a Target Zero Action Plan (TZAP) to improve transportation safety in Kent, working towards eliminating fatalities and serious injuries due to crashes. The TZAP is the next evolution of the Local Road Safety Plan (LRSP), expanding the transportation safety conversation. While the LRSP is a data-driven analysis of crash patterns on Kent roadways, the TZAP expands on the data by incorporating equity considerations and a multidisciplinary approach.
i contributed to each of the three phase of public involvement with the transportation advisory group snd residents at community events. These phases involved: listening and learning, prioritizing solutions, and public comment on the plan. During the solution prioritization phase, our team partnered with Byblos Mediterranean Market and booked an Arabic interpreter. We set up at the market to speak with community members, many of whom were part of the immigrant community.
I also worked with our team and consultants to analyze data on a systemic level, create methodologies, and prioritize projects for the TZAP as we plan to pursue grants for safety projects. One of the methodologies involved sidewalk prioritization. In Kent, there are areas of missing sidewalks or sidewalk gaps. We created a method to assign points and rank areas that would benefit the most from sidewalk construction.
